Vegan Homemade Croutons

      These are basic croutons. Be creative with your own!  

  •       2 cups of French bread or any non-dairy bread you like 
  •     1 tablespoon of vegan butter, cooking spray or olive oil 
  •     ¼ teaspoon of garlic, finely minced   

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut bread into 1” cubes, without crust. Mix melted vegan butter or olive oil with the garlic. Toss bread with mixture and add freshly ground pepper to taste. Bake 5-10 minutes until they are golden and crisp. For a lighter version, sprinkle bread with garlic and use a light coat of canola oil cooking spray instead of vegan butter.  5 21 There are many different herbs and seasonings that can be used. Just a few would include a sprinkle of cayenne pepper, parsley, finely minced, basil, minced or dried, chives, a seasoning salt like Tony Chachere’s, flavored pepper, or a teaspoon of an Italian herb. Different breads can also make a big difference it the taste.

Variation:

 To make fresh breadcrumbs, cut away crusts of coarse-textured bead. Crumble the bread into a food processor and pulse to the desired consistency. For dried crumbs, dry fresh crumbs in an oven set on 200°F (95°C) for about 30-45 minutes.
