Vegan Masa Dumplings

These are corn flavored little dumplings that are great to eat with soups, Place on top as a garnish or put in the bottom of the bowl and pour soup over.

  • 1 cup Masa Harina (corn tortilla mix)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground pure red chile pepper (not chili powder)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ½ cup water

Stir Masa, baking powder, chili and salt together with fork. Mix in oil and water a little at a time, making sure you do not get too much, until dough comes together. Gently form into a small ball. Break off pieces of dough and roll into marbles.  Pour oil in skillet and heat to medium high. When hot, add balls and cook for several minutes, rolling them around in the pan, until golden. Remove to a paper towel covered plate to drain.
