You will lose the bright green color of broccoli if it is overcooked. Steamed broccoli should be a vibrant color and tender-crisp for serving.
Place broccoli into steamer basket, cover and steam for 5 minutes. Use a paring knife to pierce stem to test for tenderness. If using just florets, remember they take less time to cook, approximately 4-6 minutes. Remove to plate and salt and pepper to taste. Squeeze fresh lemon juice or melt vegan butter over top.
Heat garlic in skillet with oil and add ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, salt and pepper to taste. When the garlic is lightly browned, add steamed broccoli and toss.
Take steamed broccoli and toss with a fresh salsa of your choice.
Mix Dijon mustard with capers and toss steamed broccoli around to coat.
Toss steamed broccoli with your favorite salad dressing and add to a salad.<
